Westport United maintaoned their lead at the top of Division 1 after another exciting night of action at Solar 21 Park

Conn Rangers kicked off proceedings with a fine 4-0 win over a previously inform Ballyhaunis Town side on Wednesday evening. The North Mayo men stay within touching distance of the top four thanks to the win, with their opposition on the night, Ballyhaunis Town, losing touch with Kiltimagh/Knock United and Achill Rovers at the top of the table. Aiden McLoughlin bagged a brace for his side, with Shane Sweeney and Declan Sweeney adding the rest of the goals.

Fahy Rovers were both scintillating and clinical in Division One’s opening game of the night, as they easily overcame Straide and Foxford United with an 8-0 win, their first win of the season. The win leaves Fahy Rovers on four points, three clear of Swinford B and four clear of Straide and Foxford United. Larry Joyce was the star of the show for John Beckett’s side, banging in a hat trick, with further goals coming from Tommy Gill (2), Colin Napier, Tommy Conroy and Declan Kelly.

Castlebar Celtic got back to winning ways in Division Two, as they overcame Claremorris B in an entertaining 12 goal thriller, eventually winning 7-5. Marty McNicholas, Ashley Stevenson and Kevin Malone bagged a brace each for the hoops, with Eoin Carney scoring his second goal in as many games, adding the seventh. For Claremorris B, Paul Ryan scored a hat trick, with Christy Heffernan and an own goal rounding off the scoring.

Claremorris hold on to second place in Divison One in their first season back at the top table, as they overcame Swinford B 5-3 in a competitive affair in Solar 21 Park. The win moves the South Mayo side three points clear of Manulla, while Swinford B remain in sixth place, one point ahead of Straide and Foxford United at the bottom of the table. Micky Mullins scored a wonderful hat trick for Claremorris, with Brendan French and Jarlath Vahey also on target. Billy Murphy, John Duffy and Keith Robertson were on the score sheet for Swinford B.

Achill Rovers remain unbeaten, and in the process, picked up their third win in a row, as they overcame Manulla B 4-2 on Wednesday evening. The win sees Achill move six points clear of third place, and remains a point clear of Kiltimagh/Knock United, who are in second place. Martin Moran (2), Martin Doolan and Manus O’ Donnell found the net for Achill, with Colin Walsh and Paraic Cuffe on target for Manulla B.

Westport United overcame Ballina Town in what was a thrilling conclusion to the evening’s Division One action. The 6-4 victory showcases the competitive nature of the tie, but ultimately, it was the reigning champions who showed the nous and composure to secure the three points. Mark McNally (2), Danny Scahill (2), Austin O’ Malley and Colin Keane were on the score sheet for the victors, with Malachy McCarron (2), Tom O’ Connor and Cormac O’ Malley finding the net for Ballina Town.

Kiltimagh/Knock United saw off Swinford B by the odd goal in 13, as both sides paid little attention to defending, instead focusing on attempting to outscore the opposition. In the end, Kiltimagh/Knock United were 7-6 winners, with their goals coming from Andy Leadbetter (2), Gavin Groarke (2), Colm Kelly, James Carty and Damien Gallagher. Paul McDonagh (3), David Golden (2) and Enda Campbell scored the goals for Swinford.

Player of the Day:
Micky Mullins not only ran the midfield for Claremorris, but added a fine hat trick to top off a polished performance.

Goal of the Day: Despite being on the losing side, Malachy McCarron’s wonder goal for Ballina Town was straight out of the top drawer.

Goalkeeper of the Day: Colm Cafferkey was once again inspiring between the sticks for a rampant Achill Rovers.

Third Eye: Goalkeeper’s sticking one in the opposite net is becoming a bit of a theme here, with Declan Sweeney adding to the list with a fine strike from inside his own box in Conn Rangers’ win over Ballyhaunis Town.
