Calor Gas Super Cup Semi-Finals Review

Manulla v Ballina Town - 04/05/19

Ballina Town got past the challenge of Snugboro United as Manulla made light work of Ballyglass in today’s Calor Gas Super Cup Semi Finals

Calor Gas Super Cup Semi Finals

Ballina Town still have the chance to retain the Super Cup as they reached their third final in a row after a 3-1 win over a resilient Snugboro United side earlier today. Due to the heavy rain over the past few days the game was moved to Solar 21 Park and Snugboro continued their form they have shown in recent weeks as they went in ahead at the break. The excellent Johnny Walsh scored the opener as he volleyed home early on and Snugboro were good value for the goal advantage at half-time. Ballina improved in the second period as they found a second gear and the equaliser arrived with just over twenty minutes remaining as Derick Tansey headed home a corner. They soon found themselves in front as another defender Duane Helley was on target as his header found the back of the net as he got on the end of another set-piece. They had to wait until injury time to seal the victory as substitute Brian Benson got the insurance goal and Ballina will head back to Solar 21 Park in two weeks-time as they look to end the domestic season on a high.

The second semi final was expected to be a much closer affair but Manulla were in top form as they reached the final with a 6-1 win over local rivals Ballyglass. Manulla rushed into a two-goal lead as Darragh Byrne and Sean Morrisey put them in control early on.
They dominated the game and added further goals through a second from Byrne and Shea Benson, Owen Omataje and Enda McGahon were also on target for the men in blue. They will now meet Ballina Town in the final on Sunday the 17th of November as both sides look to end the season by taking home the Calor Gas Super Cup.
